Born in Sweden to Swedish and Indian parents, Gita has lived in New York, Paris, and a tiny town in central Italy, though she’s spent much of her life in New England. As a girl, she rode horses and typed absurd poems on her uncle’s Olivetti Lettera 22.
She attended Yale College and New York University, where she earned a PhD focusing on Victorian literature and imperialism. As a lecturer at Princeton, she taught classes on fairy tales and monsters.
Along with her husband and son, Gita divides her time between a spooky Massachusetts village and the wild coast of Maine. In each place, there are way too many books. Her debut novel, ALL THAT GLITTERS (previously titled ENCHANTÉE), was published in 2019 by Flatiron Books (USA) and Macmillan Children’s Books (UK); the sequel, EVERYTHING THAT BURNS (UK title: LIBERTÉ), will be published in 2021.
