Katie Schenkel is a writer best known for co-creating the critically acclaimed, Eisner Award-nominated graphic novel The Cardboard Kingdom. She is a proud bi, non-binary woman who writes from a queer and feminist point of view. The theme of empathy can be found throughout all of Katie’s work, from her collegiate werewolf comic Moonlighters to the middle grade sports book Basketball Camp Champ. She’s written several kids graphic novels for Capstone Publishing including Alice, Secret Agent of Wonderland, a fun twist on the literary classic. Every kid should be able to see themselves in stories, and Katie is passionate about putting inclusive kids books out into the world.
When it comes to adult fiction, Katie finds joy in writing for queer and women readers, and wants to bring the romance comic genre back into the mainstream. Along with her books, Katie is well known for her pop culture critique from a feminist, queer lens. You can find her critical work on The Mary Sue, Comics Alliance, Playboy.com, and BookRiot, among others. Katie lives in Chicago with her partner Madison.
